When senses are mixed …

It appears that some people perceive an odor when they watch at a color, or a color while reading a word.
Colors, shapes, or sounds are daily seen but, for some of us, it endorses a new meaning.

Can you hear a color? Taste some words? See or touch a sound?
The answer is yes! This is the case of some individuals and this phenomenon is called “Synesthesia”.

Synesthesia is of course not a disease. It is a neurological phenomenon which can be describe the following way: a stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.
Several types of synesthesia exist. The well-known is the « grapheme – colors synesthesia « : letters of the alphabet or numbers can be seen colored.

Synesthesia can be hereditary or the result of taking hallucinogenic drugs.

Hear colors, see sounds, taste the words, or see the letters of the alphabet in color, these are the skills of synesthetes!

This is an exciting new topic that opens many fields of applications in the sensory, education, services and plenty of other sectors.
